American Birding Association – (ABA) Represents the North American birding community and supports birders through publications, conferences, workshops, tours, partnerships, and networks. The ABA has developed a code of ethics for birding.

American Bird Conservancy – (ABC) Dedicated to conservation results and solutions to help native birds across the Western Hemisphere. The ABC learns from ornithological science and puts it into action to help conserve birds. that strives to conserve wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas.

Bird Conservation Network – (BCN) is a coalition of 20+ bird conservation organizations in the broader Chicago metropolitan area. Volunteer BCN monitors, in cooperation with regional land managers, conduct an annual breeding birds survey and develop a trends analysis based on this survey. The BCN also advocates for birds at the local, regional, state, and national levels, creating position papers and a list of regional birds of concern.

Chicago Bird Alliance – (CBA) A chapter of the National Audubon Society that covers Chicago and Cook County suburbs. The Chicago Bird Alliance connects people with birds and nature through educational programming, field trips, advocacy, stewardship and research.

Chicago Ornithological Society – (COS) is an all-volunteer run organization that promotes the appreciation of birds and the restoration of bird habitat in the Chicago region. The COS mission is to interpret and conserve the Earth’s biological diversity through research, education, and participatory science focused on birds and nature.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology – The nation’s premier institution for research and education on birds. It’s the organization behind eBird, Merlin, All About Birds and other resources.

DuPage Birding Club – (DBC) is one of the largest and most active birding groups in Illinois. Promotes birding through field experiences and education that focus on the various habitats in DuPage County, the greater Chicago area, and other regional hotspots. “The intent of the DuPage Birding Club is to provide fun and camaraderie between birders of all levels and ages while enjoying some serious birding experiences.” 

eBird – A repository of birding information managed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Our goal is to gather this information in the form of checklists of birds, archive it, and freely share it to power new data-driven approaches to science, conservation and education.

Illinois Audubon Society – (IAS) was organized as an independent, state-wide, educational and scientific organization, incorporated April 10, 1897, by the State of Illinois. Its mission is to promote the perpetuation and appreciation of native flora and fauna of Illinois and the habitats that support them. The IAS has local chapters throughout the state. In addition to bird watching field trips, many chapters support conservation projects.

Illinois Ornithological Society – An organization dedicated to Illinois birds and birding. It has a link to submit documentation of rare and unusual birds to IORC.

National Audubon Society – (Audubon) is a non-profit conservation organization, protects birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow, throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education, and conservation.

Thorn Creek Audubon Society – A chapter of the National Audubon Society, and an affiliate of Illinois Audubon Society.

Wild Birds Unlimited – (WBU, Joliet Illinois) partners with Will County Audubon Society to educate and promote birds, wildlife, native plants, and conservation.

The Xerces Society – The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats. Our key program areas are: pollinator conservation, endangered species conservation, and reducing pesticide use and impacts.
