Muirhead Springs (42W797 Rohrsen Rd, Hampshire, IL 60140) is 757 acres of restored prairie and wetlands in Kane County. Every spring the ponds boast a variety of shorebirds such as Black-necked Stilts, American Avocets, various Sandpipers, and others as they stop on their way to breeding grounds up north. The grasslands support migrating sparrows like LeConte’s, Nelson’s, Vesper, and Lincoln’s plus Eastern and Western Meadowlarks. We will meet at 9am in the parking lot and explore the grounds. Come and go as you please, or even bring a sack lunch to enjoy under the pavilion!
*Please be aware that this will be an extended trip with no set distance or ending time! Paths are a mixture of crushed limestone and cut grass, please dress appropriately. Binoculars and Scopes will come in handy.
Free and open to the public. Registration is required for this event since it is a further location- email field trip leader Kara Morales at karamorales272@gmail.com if you are interested in joining or have any questions.
